CURRENTLY LOVING: THIS DRESS

HATCH Nantucket Dress

Hands-down, this dress by HATCH is my new favourite. Yes, it is technically a maternity dress, but trust me when I say it works on everyone. It is incredibly comfortable (ahem, maternity dress!), has pockets and is flattering with an A-line fit and circular hem. I found this brand when I was pregnant with Little Bean and I still gravitate to their lovely, wearable clothes.

RECIPE: ALMOND FLOUR BREAD

Gluten free, dairy free, yeast free almond bread

I recently found out that I have an overgrowth of candida (yeast) that is playing havoc with my body. My issue was likely caused by antibiotic doses without properly compensating with probiotics to prevent the evil bacteria from overtaking the good.

To beat this beast, I'm following a very restrictive diet that doesn't allow for yeast, sugar, grains, dairy or carbohydrates. The list of foods to avoid is long and daunting. Fruit doesn't even make the cut, which pains me. I was feeling sorry for myself -- although I could eat (homemade) guacamole and hummus, I had nothing to dip or spread it on. Then I found this recipe for almond bread and rejoiced. This bread is dense, filling and perfect for dipping in olive oil or my favourite spreads.

Dry ingredients:
2 1/4 cups blanched almond flour*
1/4 cup ground flaxseed
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon fine texture sea salt

Wet ingredients:
4 large eggs
1 1/2 tablespoons honey (I used 5 drops of Stevia, an organic sweetener to avoid all sugar)
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

Herbs:
2 teaspoons fresh thyme leaves
2 teaspoons fresh rosemary leaves

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°FLightly grease a 9- x 5-inch loaf pan.

In a food processor, combine the dry ingredients and pulse them until well combined. Add the wet ingredients and mix until well combined, about 20 seconds. Add the fresh herbs and pulse until combined.

Spread the dough into the prepared loaf pan (it will fill it halfway). Bake for 30-35 minutes, until it meets the toothpick test. Let cool in the pan before serving.

Enjoy!

* An alternative is to use 2 cups blanched almond flour and 2 tablespoons coconut flour

CURRENTLY LOVING: HAMAM TOWELS

Hamam towels

If you live in a hot, humid climate, then hamam (turkish) towels are a must-have for you. These towels are as absorbent as standard terry cloth towels, but dry much quicker because they are lightweight. I've become obsessed with these towels by Turkish T since moving to Bermuda and use them at home and at the beach. No more wet, moldy towels for our family!

A CRAFTY MOBILE

making a kids mobile

Monkey and I have been busy building a lot of paper dinosaurs. He is in charge of glue distribution and I'm responsible for the paper folding -- together, we're quite a team. Little Bean was intrigued with the dinosaurs and happily snatched one whenever Monkey looked away from guarding his treasures. Unfortunately the delicate dinos were no match for her inquisitive hands.

To spare a great deal of tears, we decided to save and protect the dinosaurs by making a mobile. It's easy to make if you find yourself in the same situation. All you need are a few sticks from the garden and some fishing line to keep any precious crafts safe and out of reach.

A COOL NEW FIND

Puffy Frame, SCAD

The wall above Little Bean's crib was a blank canvas for far too long. I had been searching for something to hang that was safe, versatile and fun, and now thanks to my friend Maggie, I found the perfect piece!

It is a puffy frame designed by Ashley Olson and created by the Working Class Studio, a program that showcases art and design pieces by students, faculty and alumni of SCAD, the Savannah College of Art and Design. The idea is to use it to frame a cork board, picture, chalkboard or a lightweight mirror, but I prefer it be left blank and seen as a piece of art itself.
