THE CORSAGE PROJECT

The Corsage Project

New projects and commitments have taken my attention lately. Let me tell you a little bit about one such project ... Recently, I joined the committee that steers The Corsage Project, a community-based program of the Children's Aid Foundation that provides new (and free) prom dresses, shoes and accessories to girls across the Greater Toronto Area who could otherwise not afford to attend their graduation prom. Did you know that it costs about $500 to go to the prom when you add up the costs of the dress, shoes, accessories and ticket?

This year, The Corsage Project's annual Boutique Ball was held April 21 with more than 250 girls in attendance. Each girl was paired up with a volunteer personal shopper to search the racks of beautiful dresses and tables of shoes and fancy accessories for their perfect prom outfit. The last stop is a mini-makeover and alterations.

It was incredible to see the transformation in the girls during the course of the event -- many arrived feeling unsure and nervous, but left with wide smiles and giddy laughs. A remarkable experience for all involved. I am honored to be a part of such a great program that directly impacts deserving girls across our city, and makes their prom dreams a reality.

A YEAR IN PICTURES

Pinhole Press photo book

I treasure my photographs. I have photo albums stacked high that document trips to places near and far, family gatherings, friendships and just everyday life. The problem is that space is at a premium in our little home, so piles of photo albums just aren't practical (besides, photo albums tend not to be aesthetically pleasing).

The solution? Create beautiful, simple photo books to document each year. I used Pinhole Press, an easy-to-use online photo shop, to create two photo books for 2012 -- this one captures our daily life and this smaller one our family trip to Italy. With cloth-bound hardcovers and thick archival paper, I will happily stack these books (and more for years to come) in our living room bookcase.

CURRENTLY LOVING: THESE BONNETS

Wooly bonnets by Patouche
How adorable are these wooly bonnets by Patouche? I admit that I have a slight obsession with them ... Monkey has two. Here's a secret, Planet Kid in Toronto is having a very good sale this weekend where you just might find a bonnet for your little one (among other very cool things)!

SPRING BLUES

J.Crew sweatshirt, Fleabag bag, MOMA umbrella, Persol sunglasses, Bloch ballet flats
Jeweled sweatshirt / Tote bag / Sunglasses / Ballet flats / Umbrella

Maybe it's the fact that I'm impatiently waiting for Spring weather, or maybe it's that blue is one of my favourite colours, but blue is taking over my covet list this season. How fun would it be to hoist that umbrella on a grey and rainy day?
